A quiet Whitby neighborhood was shattered in the early hours of Tuesday morning when a home was invaded by six masked individuals wielding a firearm. The terrifying ordeal unfolded around 2:50 a.m. on Applewood Crescent, leaving a homeowner assaulted and robbed.
The intruders stormed the residence, immediately confronting the homeowner with a gun. Demanding car keys, they ransacked the home, making off with valuable possessions and ultimately stealing a distinctive blue Ford Raptor pickup truck.
Their escape involved two stolen vehicles: the stolen Raptor and a Jeep Grand Cherokee they arrived in. A desperate attempt to steal a third vehicle from the garage proved unsuccessful, adding to the chaos of the scene.
Police quickly located the abandoned Jeep Grand Cherokee on Highway 407. A coordinated search, aided by the K9 Unit, led to the apprehension of three suspects nearby, taken into custody without further incident.
The Jeep was traced back to a prior theft in the Toronto area, while the stolen Ford Raptor was later recovered within the city limits. Despite the swift action, three suspects remain at large, their identities currently unknown.
Robin Badwah, 43, of Mississauga, faces a lengthy list of charges including robbery, breaking and entering, and multiple firearm-related offenses. He also faces charges related to previous court orders and probation violations, revealing a history with the justice system.
Two Toronto boys, aged 16 and 17, have also been charged with robbery, breaking and entering, and related offenses. Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, their identities are protected.
All three individuals currently in custody are awaiting bail hearings. Investigators are actively seeking any information that could lead to the capture of the remaining suspects, urging anyone with relevant footage or knowledge to come forward.
