A powerful voice in Republican philanthropy, Miriam Adelson, publicly signaled her support for Representative Elise Stefanik’s bid for New York governor. Though not a formal endorsement, Adelson’s praise resonated deeply during a prestigious gala honoring Stefanik’s unwavering commitment to combating antisemitism.
The event, hosted by the Zionist Organization of America, recognized Stefanik with the Mortimer Zuckerman Maccabee Warrior Award. Adelson, speaking with palpable admiration, recalled being struck by Stefanik’s direct questioning of university presidents regarding the rise of antisemitism on their campuses.
“She has the guts to say the truth,” Adelson declared, echoing the late Sheldon Adelson’s philosophy of unwavering conviction. She highlighted Stefanik’s courage in standing firm, even when facing opposition, a trait she deeply valued.
Adelson described Stefanik as a “great leader” dedicated to defending not only the Jewish people and Israel, but also the principles of a free world. Her words carried the weight of significant influence and a hopeful vision for New York’s future.
Stefanik, recently launching her campaign to challenge Governor Kathy Hochul, has positioned herself as a champion for affordability and safety in New York. She argues decades of Democratic rule have led to unsustainable costs and a growing crime crisis.
The congresswoman didn’t hesitate to directly criticize Hochul’s policies, pointing to failed bail reform and a perceived embrace of policies that undermine law enforcement. She framed the upcoming election as a pivotal moment for the state’s direction.
Stefanik also sharply criticized Hochul’s support for a newly elected New York City mayor, characterizing him as a tax-raising, anti-police socialist with antisemitic views. This pointed attack underscored the stark ideological divide between the two candidates.
Hochul’s campaign has responded by attempting to tie Stefanik to former President Trump, labeling her a “Trump Republican” and highlighting her consistent voting record in alignment with his policies. The governor accuses Stefanik of prioritizing Trump over the needs of New Yorkers.
The governor’s team has emphasized Stefanik’s past criticisms of Trump, now contrasted with her current role as one of his most vocal defenders in Congress. This narrative aims to portray Stefanik as politically opportunistic and lacking consistent principles.
Stefanik, however, remains resolute in her message, promising to unify voters across the political spectrum to “fire Kathy Hochul” and restore New York to a state of prosperity and security. Her campaign is built on a promise of fundamental change and a return to common-sense leadership.
