A quiet Toronto neighbourhood is reeling after a 71-year-old woman was discovered deceased in her North York home earlier this month. The discovery, made on December 1st, immediately raised concerns, prompting a swift and thorough investigation by Toronto Police.
Initial reports described the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death as “suspicious,” leading investigators to believe foul play was involved. The victim has been identified as Tatiana Shamalov, a beloved member of the community whose life was tragically cut short.
Following a meticulous investigation, Imtiaz Ahmed, a 44-year-old man from Toronto, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with Shamalov’s death. The arrest marks a significant development in the case, offering a measure of accountability as the investigation continues.
Meanwhile, in the Annex neighbourhood, police are urgently seeking the public’s assistance to identify six suspects involved in a violent double stabbing. The incident occurred on a Saturday morning, just after 1:10 a.m., inside a local restaurant.
Three men were approached by the group of six, and a confrontation quickly escalated into a physical altercation. During the fight, two of the victims sustained stab wounds and were rushed to hospital, thankfully with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The suspects fled the scene on foot, leaving investigators to piece together the events and track down those responsible. Descriptions of the suspects have been released, detailing their approximate ages, heights, and distinctive clothing.
One suspect was seen wearing a striking camo Moose Knuckle jacket with a black fur hood and a mask adorned with a white check mark. Another sported a beige jacket and a white and black scarf, while others were described wearing dark, puffy jackets and unique shoe markings.
Investigators are focusing on details like curly dark hair and a moustache on one suspect, and a dark goatee and lettered blue jeans on another. The hope is that these specific identifiers will jog the memory of anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the suspects in the area.
This second incident adds to a growing number of serious crimes in the city, marking Toronto’s 39th homicide of the year. Police are urging anyone with information about either case to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigations.
