Gerwyn Price is stepping onto the Alexandra Palace stage transformed. The darts superstar has shed nearly three stone, a remarkable change that’s fueling his quest for a second World Darts Championship title.
The transformation wasn’t born from a grueling new training regime, but a surprisingly simple shift in focus. Price didn’t overhaul his lifestyle; he simply began to prioritize cleaner eating and mindful timing of his meals.
“I just started to eat a little bit cleaner,” Price revealed. “I eat at the right times, try and keep in a calorie deficit.” The results speak for themselves – a noticeable difference in his physique and a boost in his overall well-being.
He’s already experiencing the benefits, finding himself comfortably slipping into a large shirt where an extra large was once necessary. His waist size has shrunk, and a newfound comfort radiates both on and off the stage.
The change isn’t just about aesthetics. Price believes improved fitness translates directly to endurance, a crucial advantage in the longer, more demanding matches of a major championship like the World Darts Championship.
While darts isn’t traditionally a sport associated with peak athleticism, Price recognizes the competitive edge that comes with being in better shape. It’s about sustaining energy levels and maintaining focus throughout extended play.
“I wouldn’t say you have to be an athlete,” Price explained, “But it’s obviously in your own interests and it benefits you if you aren’t overweight.” He emphasized the mental benefits as well, noting a clearer, more focused mindset.
Interestingly, Price’s commitment to his new diet has required a degree of self-discipline, given his ownership of a local chip shop, Chippy501. The temptation is always there, being right next door to his business.
He opened the shop to preserve a beloved village institution after the previous one closed, but now finds himself carefully moderating his intake. “I don’t eat a lot of it,” he admitted, “I try not to, hence why I have lost a little bit of weight.”
This isn’t just about winning a trophy; it’s about optimizing every aspect of his performance. Price’s dedication to physical and mental well-being positions him as a formidable contender as he begins his campaign against Adam Gawlas.
