The congresswoman publicly stated that her son was pulled over after a visit to a local store and questioned about his citizenship.
Omar recounted that her son presented his passport as identification, and the agents subsequently released him. She also alleged a prior incident involving ICE agents entering a mosque frequented by her son, though no further action was taken at that time.
The Department of Homeland Security swiftly responded, issuing a firm denial of any record of the alleged traffic stop. The agency characterized Omar’s accusation as a “shameful” attempt to demonize ICE and suggested it was a calculated public relations maneuver.
Officials were particularly forceful in rejecting any implication of racial profiling, stating that immigration enforcement is based solely on legal status, not on someone’s race, ethnicity, or skin color. They emphasized that any detention must be based on “reasonable suspicion” as defined by the Fourth Amendment.
This controversy arises as Omar herself faces scrutiny regarding potential immigration fraud. Allegations have surfaced suggesting she may have entered into a marriage with her brother to facilitate his path to U.S. citizenship.
Former Border Czar Tom Homan revealed he requested a review of Omar’s immigration records following these credible allegations. The initial reports detailing a possible marriage to her brother first emerged several years ago.
During divorce proceedings in 2017, Omar swore under oath that she had not seen an individual identified as Ahmed N. Elmi since 2011 and lacked any means to contact him. However, evidence later suggested Elmi was, in fact, her brother.
Further fueling the controversy, a resurfaced tweet from 2013 linked to an Instagram post where Omar referred to her father by a different name – Nur Said. This tweet was deleted after the allegations gained traction, but not before it was preserved.
The situation remains highly charged, with accusations and denials flying between the congresswoman and the federal agency, while questions surrounding Omar’s personal history continue to surface.
