A wave of fear gripped communities across Peel Region as a series of brazen carjackings unfolded, culminating in the arrest of three individuals – two teenagers aged 16 and an 18-year-old.
The first incident occurred on December 10th, as darkness fell over Brampton. A newer-model BMW SUV was deliberately rammed from behind on Humberwest Parkway, sending shockwaves through the quiet evening.
The driver, fearing for their safety, escaped on foot as masked figures emerged from the suspect vehicle. Police discovered the damaged BMW abandoned nearby, a chilling testament to the escalating violence.
Just days later, on December 13th, the terror continued in Mississauga. A victim was confronted by three individuals wielding a knife, their faces hidden behind masks. The victim, understandably terrified, surrendered the keys to their vehicle.
The stolen car became a weapon in itself, involved in a collision on Highway 403. Witnesses reported seeing the suspects transfer into the vehicle used in the initial carjacking, a disturbing pattern emerging.
Monday brought a breakthrough. Officers, observing the suspect vehicle near Dundas Street West and Winston Churchill Boulevard, noticed occupants once again concealing their identities with masks and gloves.
A coordinated effort involving K9 and Tactical Units swiftly brought the situation under control. The occupants were apprehended, bringing an end – at least for now – to the escalating crime spree.
Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich emphasized the profound impact of these crimes, stating they would “carry lasting impacts on the victims and our community.” The arrests, he affirmed, were crucial to preventing further harm and ensuring accountability.
Tayvien Coley, 18, of Toronto, along with the two 16-year-old suspects – one from Brampton and one from Mississauga – now face serious charges including conspiracy to commit robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of stolen property.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, both teenage suspects were already under release orders, which they allegedly violated. A subsequent search of a Mississauga residence yielded evidence directly linked to the crimes.
Investigators continue to appeal to the public for any information that might assist in fully understanding the scope of these events and bringing complete closure to the affected communities.
