A recent operation in the Eastern Pacific saw U.S. forces destroy another vessel engaged in drug smuggling, a continuation of a relentless campaign against illicit trafficking. The strike resulted in two fatalities and one survivor among those operating the boat.
This latest action brings the total number of drug boats destroyed in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean Sea to at least 36 since September 2nd. The operations represent a significant escalation in the fight against organizations labeled as “narco-terrorist” groups.
The strikes are unfolding in the wake of a dramatic capture: the arrest of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro. He is now detained in New York, facing charges including narco-terrorism conspiracy and weapons violations related to threats against the United States.
The operation to apprehend Maduro was a daring, nighttime raid within Caracas, Venezuela, executed without any American casualties. It signaled a clear message about the U.S.’s commitment to dismantling the networks that fuel the drug trade.
Just hours before Maduro’s capture, U.S. Southern Command affirmed its dedication to disrupting drug trafficking and safeguarding national security, stating simply: “New year. Same mission.” This resolve has been demonstrably upheld in the weeks that followed.
On January 23rd, Joint Task Force Southern Spear, acting on the direction of a high-ranking official, conducted a lethal strike against a vessel confirmed to be involved in narco-trafficking along established routes. Following the engagement, immediate steps were taken to initiate a search and rescue operation for the surviving individual.
Earlier, on New Year’s Eve, U.S. military forces had already destroyed two additional drug boats, resulting in five deaths. These actions underscore the intensity and frequency of the ongoing operations.
The campaign represents a proactive approach to combating the flow of illegal drugs and dismantling the criminal organizations responsible, with a clear focus on eliminating threats before they reach U.S. shores. The operations are a stark demonstration of force and determination.
