A Minneapolis neighborhood erupted in turmoil following a fatal shooting involving federal immigration agents. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar immediately condemned the incident, characterizing it as an “execution” and leveling accusations of murder against federal enforcement.
The shooting occurred during a targeted operation aimed at arresting an individual wanted for violent assault. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the suspect, a 37-year-old man, confronted agents while armed with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Agents attempted to disarm the suspect, but a violent struggle ensued. Fearing for their lives and the safety of others, an agent discharged their weapon, resulting in the suspect’s death at the scene. The suspect was also found to be carrying two magazines and had no identification.
Video footage quickly circulated online, depicting agents wrestling with a man before shots rang out. The incident immediately ignited a firestorm of controversy and accusations, with Omar demanding the immediate withdrawal of ICE and CBP from Minnesota.
Omar’s statements went further, calling for the impeachment of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. She described the shooting as a deliberate act of terrorizing the community, transforming a place of refuge into a “war zone.”
The Department of Homeland Security defended the agent’s actions, stating the shooting was a justified response to a deadly threat. They emphasized the suspect’s violent resistance during the attempted disarming.

Federal agents responded with tear gas and other crowd control measures, declaring an unlawful assembly. The Border Patrol Union released a statement supporting their agents, highlighting their rigorous training and the dangerous circumstances they faced.
The union strongly criticized what they called irresponsible rhetoric from the media and politicians, claiming it incites violence against law enforcement. They expressed confidence that a full investigation would demonstrate the justifiable use of force.
