A shadow fell over Peel Region last month as authorities moved against a network allegedly trafficking in dangerous drugs and illegal firearms. The investigation culminated in a pair of raids on November 25th, revealing a hidden world of illicit activity.
At one residence, investigators uncovered a chilling arsenal: two loaded handguns, alongside a disturbing array of narcotics. Cocaine, Xanax, heroin, crystal meth, opium, psilocybin, and oxycodone were seized, painting a grim picture of the scale of the operation. A cocaine press and scales indicated a sophisticated, organized effort.
Ishpaul Biryah, 23, of Brampton, was swiftly arrested and now faces sixteen charges. These include possession of loaded, regulated firearms and possessing weapons with deliberately altered serial numbers, alongside multiple counts related to drug trafficking.
Dilpreet Sekhon, 30, also from Brampton, has been charged with possession of proceeds of crime and two counts of trafficking scheduled substances. The investigation suggests a significant financial component to the illegal enterprise.
However, the net hasn’t fully closed. Gurjit Gill, 29, of Brampton, remains at large, wanted on a staggering twenty charges. These include dangerous operation of a vehicle, firearm offenses mirroring those faced by Biryah, and multiple counts of drug trafficking.
Gill is described as approximately 5-foot-8, weighing 119 pounds, with a thin build, straight black hair, and brown eyes. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to come forward immediately.
Separately, tragedy struck in Scarborough’s Malvern neighbourhood on November 5th. A collision involving a grey Ford F350 pickup truck resulted in the death of a 34-year-old female passenger.
The driver, a 47-year-old man, lost control of the vehicle on Markham Road, south of Finch Avenue East. He was hospitalized with injuries, but the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hariharan Navaratnam has since been arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death. The investigation continues to determine the precise circumstances leading to the devastating crash.
These two investigations, though distinct, underscore a period of heightened police activity and a commitment to dismantling criminal networks operating within the region. The pursuit of justice continues on multiple fronts.
