As the spooky season draws closer, so does Stranger Things season five, the final instalment of Netflix’s sci-fi horror hit.
Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer have a big job on their hands to give the show the send-off it deserves – and that fans crave.

What’s the plot of the final season?
Season five is set to begin in the autumn of 1987. “Every battle has led to this,” a tagline reads.
This final instalment will involve the group’s most-challenging time as the military have descended on Hawkins, Indiana. Meanwhile, the Demogorgons continue to lurk in the shadows, but where is Vecna?
“Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna,” the official synopsis says. “But he has vanished, his whereabouts and plans unknown.
“As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming, and, with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone standing together, one last time.”
Complicating our heroes’ mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding.
A trailer reveals a series of dramatic events, including characters preparing for war, lots of blood and some big explosions.
“After all we’ve been through. this thing, it ties us together forever,” Jonathan tells Nancy.
For season one, the Duffers wrote a 25-page document outlining the mythology and lore of the alternative dimension. We can assume, therefore, that all the loose ends will be tied up by the time everything comes to an end.
The mystery behind Barbara’s disappearance in season one also looks set to be resolved.
“The last remaining questions that are answered in that document, we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in season five,” the Duffers previously promised.

Who is in the cast?
Many of the original cast will be returning for the last time, including Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin) and Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas).
Winona Ryder, David Harbour and Noah Schnapp will also be back.
Terminator favourite Linda Hamilton will be joining the cast as a government scientist.
